TL;DR: Right now, we hire in 40 countries based on 1) the +/- 3 UTC timezone and 2) who don’t require visas to enter Denmark and the EU.

The Why Behind Where We Hire

🕛 Timezone Constraints

When building out a remote-first company, it’s critical to build out the infrastructure to support a team that stretches timezones. That means having solid documentation and information sharing practices, async-first communication, recorded meetings and agendas upfront, and equitable benefits and perks, to name a few.

It’s best to start out with fewer timezones and slowly start to expand. That way, we’ll never trade off the culture we care about for additional timezones.

🌐 Country Constraints

Each country has different employment laws, operational admin, and some require visas to enter Denmark and/or the EU. As a small team, our capacity is limited so we need to focus on where we can have the greatest impact.

Today, that is hiring in countries where uizards can easily come to our regular onsites in Copenhagen and our year trip. We want it to be an equitable experience for uizards, where everyone can be included.

⚠️ If we find a really stellar candidate outside of countries we can hire in, we’ll still see if there is a viable way to hire them.

How We Hire Globally

We can hire three ways—through:

🇩🇰 Our Danish Entity

This is for all uizards residing in Denmark who will be on an employee contract.

🌍 An Employer of Record (EOR)

This is for all uizards residing outside of Denmark and hired as employees in their country of residence. We use Let’s Deel for our EOR.

🌍 A Consulting Contract

This is for all uizards residing outside of Denmark who prefer a consultant contract over an employee contract, or for countries where we’re only able to hire contractors.
